Reflection

Reflecting on this project, and the class as a whole, I feel as if my topic on domestic violence is a very relevant topic and seems to be gaining awareness for change. People often overlook the main issues behind domestic violence and the stereotypes that it does not happen to an average and seemingly normal family, however I feel that I have done a good job of being able to provide different modes of information to make not only my own opinion, but a different look at the disaster in its entirety by posting different modes such as videos, memes, etc. which helps give domestic violence this new spin by my network witnessing. Reading article after article on the issue and hearing abstract stories only of one dimension is not a suitable way to understand and expose these collective blindspots of the issue of domestic violence. In this day and age people, especially the younger generations who will form this nation in the near future, communicate and learn from the internet where information is able to be accessed and optioned in matter of seconds. As well to this the different modes of information such as pop culture videos, memes, and all this other information that doesn’t seem daunting to the viewer and actually entertaining and interesting at the same time. These different displays of testimony presented in my project I believe revealed the underlying factors of domestic violence and helped reveal this ongoing disaster and its victims as a sacrifice. In exposing this collective blindspot and sacrifice of domestic violence and what’s actually going on in families throughout the United States. This not only leads to a conclusion of the project, but also other factors discussed and learned from class. The idea of compassion fatigue and clicktivism was ever prevalent throughout my mediated witnessing as recently the disaster of domestic violence has been trending nonstop on Facebook and other social networking sites. It seemed as if everyday another story or scandal of domestic violence and sexual assault was being exposed, and demonstrations and reactions and opinions were everywhere to be seen. However in most of these responses it seemed that while some people seemed to understand the blindspots of domestic violence and try to expose and reveal them to the public that most people played the blame game or didn’t seem to want to care about the issue as it seemed to be unrelated to them. The internet allows for many different modes of information to be shared and this MEmorial brought information from all different aspects of life to expose the major overlooks of this disaster in society.
